The Association of Ge- nealogical and Herita- ge Researchers, Vö- rå, known more com- monly as the Genealo- gical Society in Vörå, was founded in 1981 when seven citizens of Vörå who were interes- ted in genealogy parti- cipated in a course con- ducted by the Finnish Genealogical Society. The purpose of the course was to give at- tendees permission to search records in Fin- nish archives. On the last day of this three

day course, the seven attendees foun- ded the local Genealogical Society in Vörå, modeled after a similar association in Vasa, Finland.
